The benefits of Promat 2
A single database of more than 23,000 images, of varying ethnicities and age ranges,
is currently employed – with all changes visible to all users. In the coming months,
the database will be increased to between 40,000 and 50,000 clips.
Promat 2 is a server-based system using the force network infrastructure, which
means that procedures may be carried out anywhere in the county. Captures may be
recorded and entered in the system from one site, and then compiled at another location;
and viewings may be carried out anywhere in a force’s area. This facility results
in large savings in the cost of travel and transporting prisoners or witnesses around
the county.
Operation of the system has been simplified by using internet page technology. It’s
easy to learn and will only allow the operations required to be performed in the
correct sequence. Promat 2 is more productive and makes the operator’s job much
easier – saving time and money.
Promat 2 is designed to help the witness correctly identify the suspect in as
short a time as possible while the image is still fresh in the mind of the
witness leading to the perpetrators identity being correctly ascertained.

We have a comprehensive package for recording
witness viewings, there is a mobile and a fixed
option available. This allows procedures to take
place without the defence solicitor being present.

The database is now professionally managed,
avoiding problems such as duplication, poorly
captured images and badly described fields.
This ensures more reliable search and compilation
results. The database also features secure storage
on an in-house force server, and the import and
export routines are encrypted to give a
high-integrity and secure means of sharing.

The database will be subject to regular updates
of new images, as well as cleansing of out-of-date
images. The ‘shopping list’ of new images will be
derived through the user-group meetings and
direct user feedback.

for either operators or ‘training the trainer’
to cascade down the knowledge; and a training
DVD is also planned.

tests required for Microsoft certification.
